The lovely, talented lady behind Ran With Scissors just started up a new blog called 'High Fashion Mountain'. Her first post, a hello and! a great video about fashion in the year 2000.

Catalina & lily go to ANZFW.
This coming weekend a good friend, Catalina, and I have managed to score a table at the Herald Designer Garage Sale, part of Air New Zealand Fashion Week. We'll be there (or Cat will as I'm busy dressing for most of the day) on Friday night, 7pm - 10pm, and all day Saturday, 10am - 10pm. No Sunday this year.
Catalina will have a bunch of her necklaces and I am contributing my charm necklaces and some other small bits and pieces. We have a small spot in one of the corners so hunt us out if you can make it.
It's $15 to get in but your guaranteed a bargain and it also gets you into all the other attractions on that weekend. Apparently 'It’s more open, lighter and brighter, and guaranteed to make your shopping experience an enjoyable one. There are twice as many designers, more changing rooms and double the number of eftpos terminals to make for it easy to find and buy those fantastic designer bargains.' Which is great because I went last year and it was so dark I could hardly see what I was buying!
Anyhoo, hope some of you might be able to pop in. x

I'm pretty sure I've written about Yokoo before, but here she is again. This girl is so talented and fascinating, and with 750 sales and climbing on Etsy it clear I'm not the only one loving her stuff. One day I will own a knitted Yokoo piece. I hope! Next winter?

Gabrielle Teschner and his maps.
My good friend, Alex, sent me a this link to a designboom post called 'Cutting Edge Maps' as she spotted it after seeing what I'd been doing with the 'Take me there' cutouts.
I find all of this work incredible (see the link) and one artists work very similar to what I've been doing, Gabrielle Teschner's, I managed to find his blog after a quick search- the one on the designboom post didn't work for me- and those brilliant maps (much more thought provoking than my dreams of travel ones might I add) are not all Gabrielle does. So many other brilliant creations can be found here, and my favourites below.

I got in touch with Gabrielle once I saw his work and he said of it, 'The subject of maps never tires. I started thinking about the desire to be somewhere else while I was traveling in Asia and realized that so much of being anywhere is produced in the imagination -- that our experience of a place is at battle with the place itself. This led to a consideration of how the diagram of a place, a map, alters the experience even more. Imagine if somehow your cut maps were interpreted literally -- and you arrived on a giant sheet of white paper, covered in colored lines with text shuffling at your feet...!'

It is 1 hour and 5 minutes till my birthday officially starts and I am determined to be in bed asleep before then, I much prefer waking up on my birthday than going to sleep on it.
But! Before then I have somethings to tell about. I found through a long line of blogs this wonderful shop in Paris called 'Merci Merci'. Oh how I wish I had known about this place when we arrived there a few months ago.
Merci Merci, it appears, is a new breed of charity shop, owned and run by Marie-France and Bernard Cohen (the ex-owners of Bonpoint). On the site and thanks to Google translator (where are french speaking friends when you need them!) it notes 'after selling Bonpoint, imagining an exceptional place run like a business, classic and effective, and not as a charity store.' With more thanks to Google, I also gather that the stores profits go to help the poorest of poor children in places like Madagascar. And after finally coming across some blogs in English I discover you enter this magical looking place through either the florist or used book cafe parts of the store and then more spaces open up to you full of all sorts of carefully aranged magnificant things.
Take a look at the beautiful pictures below to get more of an idea of the spaces they have made. It all looks completely jaw dropping, and with the likes of Stella McCartney and Yves Saint Laurent supporting the project by donating their creations (at reduced prices) I want to get there as quick as I can!
All the great pictures are from Morning by Foley and you can find some more on Scout Holiday. Merci Merci is located at 111 boulevard Beaumarchais 75003, Paris. It's open Monday thru Saturday from 10-19.
And lastly! Before I must dash to bed, I would love to wear something similar to this this summer. Lacy black with black leotard beneath, Juliette Hogan genius.
